He parades through the streets of Hamelin in a colourful outfit, playing a happy tune. His story is full of mystery and does not end in happiness. Hamelin’s rat catcher is fascinating to everyone, whether young or old. Embedded in the gentle hills of the Weser Mountain region lies Hamelin, on both sides of the River Weser.

The historic city centre with beautiful sandstone and half-timbered buildings from the 16th to 18th century, the Pied Piper open air performance and the musical ‘Rats’, the glass works in the historic Pulverturm, a boat trip on the Weser – you can experience all this in Hamelin.

What to do

  • Pied-Piper open air performance
  • Musical ‘Rats’
  • Glass Works
  • Museum with mechanical Pied Piper theatre
  • Boat trip on the River Weser
