The Colditz Castle Experience
Colditz Castle is one of Germany’s most fascinating destinations for anyone interested in Second World War history.
During the Second World War, the castle became Oflag IV-C, the prisoner-of-war camp intended for Allied officers who had repeatedly escaped from other camps. Its apparently escape-proof setting instead inspired some of the most ingenious escape attempts of the war and made Colditz one of the best-known prisoner-of-war camps of its time.
Today, visitors can discover the extraordinary stories of the prisoners, their escape attempts and life inside the castle.
