John Sergeant Spent A Night In Colditz Castle

If you’re seeking the thrill of staying in one of the most notorious prisoner of war camps from the Second World War, then a trip to Colditz Castle is a must! With over 300 attempts of escape, including the building of a glider plane that was destined to be catapulted off the roof, the castle is brimming full of history and stories to be told. There’s even a full-sized replica of the Glider plane on display!

Reconstructed in the 16th Century, the gleaming white structure still stands tall and proud, welcoming an average of over 30,000 visitors a year. The castle operates as a cultural centre, run by a non-profit organisation and houses a number of exhibition rooms, a music centre, a youth hostel and the famous Prisoner of War museum.

John Sergeant is an avid history buff with a special interest in the personal accounts of soldiers from World War II. Travel without Borders was delighted to arrange John Sergeant’s special trip and it is clear from his review of visiting the famous Colditz Castle, that this experience is truly once in a lifetime and is a brilliant opportunity to learn more about what it was really like living in a Prisoner of War camp. Experience the exciting escape routes of those who didn’t quite make it out and soak in the rich history around you. Will you be the next one to escape Colditz? If so, why not purchase a slogan t-shirt to commemorate the experience?
